Drum roll please – AND THE WINNER IS!?

We are so pleased to announce the winner of the first DoGood Grant is Visiting Nurse and Community Health of Arlington, MA! Yeah!

They were one of several hundred organizations that were eligible for the $1,000 grant and turned out to be the lucky winners. We couldn't be more pleased – see below for a bit more about what they do. A really terrific organization doing great stuff.

I'm on the road the next couple of days but will head over to their offices Friday morning to give them the check. Handing out money just might be turn out to be my favorite part of the job!

Remember, there are three more $1,000 DoGood Grants still to be handed out over the next three weeks. Go here to learn more.

All you have to do is to start using good2gether. Go here to register and get started.

Allison and I are doing stuff getting ready for the eTour on Thursday in Detroit. Allie is happy!

And more new nonprofits.

Every time I look…more nonprofits doing amazing stuff.

Hunger? See what Leah's Pantry does.

Animals? Yup. Check out the Medfield Animal Shelter (incidentally, how neat is this – I grew up in Medfield).

The arts? How about the Marin Shakespeare Company and the great work they do with kids.

I love, love, love, love my job. Simply amazing.

Leah's Pantry
We provide interactive cooking and nutrition workshops to homeless and low-income families throughout California. Our workshops reach kids from 5-15, young families, individuals and senior citizens. Our workshops include topics such as basic nutrition, cooking skills, kitchen safety, shopping and budgeting, media literacy, sleep and exercise, nutrition and diabetes & heart disease, and energy and concentration. All of our workshops include taste test, recipes, discussions, and explanations. Workshops range in both length and durations - we customize them based on the clients interests and budget.

Medfield Animal Shelter
The Medfield Animal Shellter's mission is to rescue lost or abandoned animals and provide for their comfort and safety until they are reunited with their owners or placed in new homes. We are a no-kill shelter, which means no pet will ever be euthanized because it has run out of time to find a home.

Marin Shakespeare Company
Marin Shakespeare Company produces an award-winning summer Mainstage season of plays from July through September at the Forest Meadows Amphitheatre on the campus of Dominican University of California in San Rafael. We also provide year-round theatre arts classes for youth including: in-school drama classes, after school classes, summer camps for ages 5 - 19, our summer Intern Program of professional actor training for college aged students and older, our Teen Touring Company which provides free performances by teens to schools and senior centers, and our Shakespeare at San Quentin program.

April 27, 2008

Wow. A weekly record.

Just checked the numbers and through Thursday we had…

…new nonprofits add themselves to good2gether. And that was just through Thursday.

And the really amazing thing is, the first public DoGood Channel hasn't gone live. Yet. If all goes well that'll happen this week (maybe Wednesday, maybe Thursday) and then watch the numbers grow.

As you drive through the neighborhoods that were hardest hit it's amazing to see how few houses are being worked on. And the ones that are being rebuilt you'll often see these white trailers in front - that's where the families are living (and have been living) through the rebuilding process.

Man, I don't like being in one of those for a weekend of camping...imagine living in one for months and months.
