Three great blog posts to share about how Gen Y approaches
everything—including cause engagement and all forms of
activism—differently. The question is, is your nonprofit ready?
ReadWriteWeb's Sarah Perez points out that Gen Y are different than
other generations in lots of ways, but especially these:
- They're "Plugged In"—meaning they grew up around computers, the
Internet, mobile phones, video games, and mp3 players. They consume
lots of media and they expect to find and engage with causes online.
- They Don't Care About Your Ad, They Care What Their Friends
Think—meaning social media and grassroots marketing have got to be key
components of your outreach.
And Allan Benamer coins the terms "nonprofit 2.0," expanding on the
above idea and adding that "blogs and IM are as natural to [Gen Y'ers]
as writing a grant."
